Angela Becerra's success - the second most read writer in Colombia

Obraz
Today I'm going to tell about my favorite Colombian writer which turns out to be the second most read artist in this country but... who's the first? It is of course Gabriel García Marquez and we have to remember to use both of his surnames because Spanish and Latin American uses it two (the first is the surname of a father and the second one is taken from a mother). If we used only one surname somebody would think of another person. His the most remarkable book is Love in the time of Cholera  and One Hundred Years of Solitude. However, his reading doesn't belong to the easiest, so if somebody wants to try this kind of literature, should take into consideration that it won't be a pleasant entertainment (at first sight), although it is worth of effort. Why? Because in his novels we discover how Magic Realism really seems. García Marquez is considered to be the father of this current in contemporary literature. The Magic Realism combines two elements that at the first mo...

La llorona - the most representative song based on Mexican legend

Obraz
Today I'm going to show a famous legend of "Llorona" which is mentioned very often in Spanish songs of the same title. First of all, we will get to know to the terrifying woman named Llorona and then we will discuss her image in Latin american music.  A well known figure of Llorona ( the name comes from the verb "llorar" which means "to cry") appears in many versions of this legend in Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile and many others. The most important aspect of her looks is that indeed she was a ghost wearing white veil and dress. When somebody met her, it turned out that in truth she was floating in the air. The name of  the woman explains what really she was doing all the time. We can easily suppose that she was crying and... as the legend says - she was screaming terribly. Now, we have to find the answer - why so?  In the 16th century on the streets of Mexico City the people could't fall asleep the other night in a row. Something or som...

Kantele in music and literature

Obraz
Since I have studied one more subject at the university I would like to write about it as well. I have to admit that apart from Spanish language and culture I am really keen on another country. This place is located  on the North of Europe and it’s called Suomi – in English Finland. Almost at the same time when I started learning Spanish language by myself, I also got interested in Finnish music and as a result – Finnish language. After so many years of being enchanted of this particular language which according to many people has the most difficult grammar in the world (what I disagree with), I got a chance to study Finnish Philology on AMU in Poznań (my home town). Thanks to it I was able to discover more about a strange language and country as it is called by the most people. I would like to explain why it seems so weird to so many people. In a way it is caused by the history of the Migration Period. Here, we have to ask a question – where Finns are from? It is often believed ...

Mexican All Saints Day

Obraz
Today it's the first time when I write this blog. As the name of this page shows - I have had already experience as a bloger and I used to write diary when I was younger. Now, I have an opportunity to create content in English language what I treat like a practice of my language skills and  I want to develop my vocabulary. Maybe another day I explain more about my past related to writing in foreign languages which topic I consider highly interesting. The topic that I want to focus on today is Mexican All Saints Day. I have watched Mexican news on Internet and I have been really happy about what was happening there. At the next part of my post I will explain the reasons why I liked today's news. However, at first, I should explain how important is this holiday to Mexican society touching a little bit a history and the way Mexican society celebrate this special day. If we have studied the World's history we know that before Europeans came to the Americas, and another populat...
